Last week Albin and I celebrated our 2 year wedding anniversary. We weren't planning on doing anything crazy, just a sushi date. But to my surprise, he had his mom come down to watch the baby so we could take an overnight trip together. He gave me two options: Palm Springs (where we were married) or Mexico. Now, I LOVE Palm Springs, but there is something about the allure of a Mexican adventure that I didn't want to miss. Within an hour, we were on the road-- Baja Bound. Our new house is only about 40 minutes from Rosarito Beach, so that's where we went.
Every time I go to Mexico, I get the "oh my goodness are you crazy?! Be careful!" speech from concerned friends and family. Am I crazy for going there? No. Yes, there is poverty in Mexico, and yes I have heard of the violence and corruption, especially in border cities like Tijuana and Juarez. But I have to say, I have been to these areas dozens of times since childhood and never encountered a problem. If you come with respect for the people and country, you will have a good time. Common sense and a few dollars is all you need. Oh Mexico, beautiful beaches, delicious food, outstanding shopping, I love you. We stayed in "our hotel," Los Pelicanos. I feel like I should get a frequent visitor card at this point. This place is a deal, and not as much of a tourist trap as the Rosarito Beach hotel. Ocean front rooms, swimming pool, lovely restaurant, and sweet staff. It is a romantic spot. If you are in Southern California, and you want to do something different, cheap, and fun, DO Mexico. Don't be scared. I am telling you, the tortillas alone are worth the trip! Oh and please believe I came back with some totally radical treats for Benny Boy! Comments are closed.
