The weekend before 4th of July, we had a little birthday party to celebrate Benny turning ONE. It was tough to put it together after moving less than a month before, so we kept it low-key and held it at a park just a block away from where my husband and I grew up. I actually had a very specific vision in my mind and even threw the cupcakes I lovingly worked on the night before in the trash. My husband came in and saw the rage I was in over the cupcake disaster and told me he was going to take a picture of the situation and start a blog called Southern Hell: The Real Story. At least that made me laugh. Becker's Bakery came to the rescue and supplied the cupcakes for the occasion. They did our wedding and baby shower, so their treats our extra special. I picked up that GIANT piñata in the Piñata District of Downtown LA. Who knew there was such a place?! And my mom added some Mardi Gras beads to the tree near our site as a little tribute to our time in New Orleans and the birth place of our Bayou Baby.
The party ended up being a wild success, with about 30 guests filtering in throughout the afternoon. We made individual sandwiches and dined picnic style in that park. Some very special people (even Great-Grandparents) came out to celebrate this big boy and we really had a great afternoon. We are so thankful for our friends and family. Benny is lucky to have so much love in his life. Thanks everyone. We love you!
