You know, this whole baby business has been surreal from the beginning. What? We're having a baby? What theeeeee. Okay here we go! The reality of it set in pretty quickly, but sometimes.. SOMETIMES, there are these moments.. these very real moments that remind me how just how real it is. Life is changing, our family is growing, and we are preparing. And it kinda feels like we're doing a good job at it too. When did Albin and I, two kids from the beach, two neighbors who irritated the hell out of each other get so grown up?! We aren't just playing house.. we bought a crib to put in our house!!!
This room in our first house as a married couple once served as a guest room. Only a few bodies slept in the bed over a scattered and sporadic number of New Orleans weekends. Last Saturday, we put the bed on Craigslist, and sold it the very same day.
Saturday evening, when I stared at the empty room, I had this very real feeling come over me-- this baby is coming. This very very adult feeling. Things got real. REAL real.
Then, Tuesday afternoon the crib came! And sweet and excited husband had it all put together blankets and all before I even got home from work. (Love him) I just stood in the room and looked in the crib imagining that a few months from now, a chubby little body will be looking up at me from this crib. Things are feeling more complete- we still have much to do in the room, but I am loving the progress.
When I walk by the room and look in I feel tranquil, serene, excited, calm, and joyful.
Our sweet doggie is definitely aware that change is in the wind. She lays in the room, rolling around the rug, and seems to be having anxiety about the moving furniture. She stares at us.
"Is Papa leaving?"
"Are we going somewhere Mama?"
"Where did you take my big bed that I play on?"
"Please take me with you."
Yep, I read my dog's mind. We're tight like that. Yes she is in for a big change like the rest of us. But lucky for her, she is going along for the ride. She will be a big sister.
This sweet little outfit was worn by Albin when he was tiny. His Mom held onto it all these years and passed it on to us, along with a bunch of other great memorabilia! A handmade quilt is also going to be in the nursery, and was the inspiration for these bold colors.
Like I said, things just got REAL real.. and I couldn't be more excited.
