Bye Crib

It came and went without much fanfare.  He's out of his crib.  We had been going back and forth for awhile now about when we would start him on a big boy bed. So, after a few climbing attempts, we decided to take the plunge and head to Ikea for a toddler bed over the weekend. I had my eye on the KURA, and was really excited to transition his room. But they didn't have the bed in stock (of course) and wouldn't for a month (naturally), so we gave up. He would just sleep in his crib forever!
But that very afternoon we had a babysitter and decided to walk down our street and go lay out on the beach for awhile. (Sidenote: This is the first time I've laid in the sand and CLOSED MY EYES since he was born. Wow!) Low and behold, on the side of the road was a toddler bed. For free. One of our neighbors was giving it away! I was like, "we are getting this after the beach."  And you know what? It was still there when we went back. Sturdy. Needed paint. Sanded it. Painted it. Boom. Done.
He's been REAL enthusiastic every night and likes to hang out and read in the bed.  I just love it. I surprised myself when I didn't feel sad that first night we tried it out. I felt excited for him. He loved it. I listened for him all night, but we didn't see him until 7 am the next morning. Hearing him open that door, and watching him walk down that hallway when he wakes up have been so fun for some reason.
Nap time is going to have to find itself a new normal. In his crib he was taking 2-3 hour naps. The toddler bed hasn't lasted more than an hour and a half. Need to work on that.
I've been having fun switching out the theme every day for him. He prefers a fiesta in his room.
I will probably still upgrade him to the KURA bed eventually.. but for now, we're happy. Free stuff is awesome.

So encouraging to know it wasn't a big deal for him. My gal is quite a few months older and we are still working on this. Love his little masculine room. xo
